Last year Keith Hendee from Nashville, Indiana organized & attempted a solo canoe expedition in northern Ontario, on the Missinaibi River. The river was one of the major fur trade routes opening the exploration of the Great Lakes, northern and central Canada, and the upper plain states of United States.
He was on the water for nearly two weeks and progressed over one hundred miles. When he encountered low water conditions and his handcrafted wood-strip canoe suffered a structural fracture in the first of several rapids. Fortunately, all was safe and the expedition gear and supplies remained in good condition.
Keith’s hopes and dreams will continue this year has he returns to Missinaibi River once again to complete what he started. The difference this year is he plans to head north in late April or early May, after the spring’s ice break-up for safer and higher water conditions. Good Idea…
This year, Keith will use an ABS/Kevlar Expedition Canoe instead of the wood-strip model to avoid any structural fracture. He also will be equipped with an assortment of Trail Blazer products. I recommend for his expedition, our original Take-Down Buck Saw, the Xtend-A-Blade and our very popular Xtreme Mini Hatchet.
I’m confident Keith will complete the expedition he started and fulfill his dream. I look forward to seeing his exciting photographs & hearing his story when he returns. Please take the time to view the Expedition’s Web-site (www.Missinaibi.ca) and drop Keith a line to wish him the best of luck.
This week my mom (Joan), wife (Dawna), son (Travis), daughter (Natalie) and myself had the relaxing pleasure of listening & enjoying the music of my youngest daughter’s grade six band & the All City Senior Jazz Band. Victoria was wonderful and looks completely natural with the Saxophone in her hands
The Dartmouth All-City Jazz Band is open to students in grades 8-12. It consists of Saxophones, Trumpets, Trombones, Piano, Guitar, Bass and Drums. The Band is comprised of students from all over Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Typically the band plays three or four concerts and takes part in the Maritime Music Festival each year. The band plays a variety of Jazz, Big Band, Latin, Rock, Funk, and Dixieland music depending upon the number of members. After what I saw this week I can say with the greatest confidence, Victoria will make a great addition to the Jazz Band in two years.
All the Best, Shawn Levangie
