I bought both these loppers. I already had high quality, professional grada loppers, but tho't I'd try these because they are said to have a higher capacity (able to cut thicker wood), and they were on sale at the time. I am very glad I bought them. Except in soft woods, the bypass loppers do not handle thicker branches than my other loppers, but in general they cut somewhat easier. The anvil loppers are exceptional. The ratcheting action really works to easily cut thru hard and dead wood, even that up to 2-1/2" or so. The extendable handles are handy and positive-locking; they will not work loose in use. Both loppers are a little heavy, but you'll get alot done with them. They are quality-built and worth the money.
Bought a set a few years ago, and use them all the time particularly the bypass lopper to lop branches off felled trees and cut my way through dense brush and thorn bushes. I have used the loppers so much that I am about to buy a replacement, since the cutter is worn out and not sold separately (or I'd just buy another cutter, the rest of the tool shows essentially no significant wear). Also be nice if someone would make a ninja scabbard so that the loppers could be carried over the back, they are somewhat bulky to carry around, tiring to carry after several hours of cutting through small trees and brush. Overall an excellent product especially for anyone who expects to do more than occasional pruning.
These are so good I keep them locked in my toolchest so the family can't borrow them! They keep a really sharp edge. The blade is removable so they're easily sharpened. They cut a wider range of branch width because the blades do not flex.
My husband is an avid gardner and received these pruners as a Christmas gift. He loved them! A few weeks ago I borrowed them and inadvertently left them in the front yard. By nightfall the pruners were gone. I have since purchased two different replacement hand pruners from our local home store, but neither compares in quality. I will now purchase both the ladies and the men's pruners so we no longer have to share.
For years I've used a similar version of these kind of pruners doing outdoor work each day on the grounds at the University of South Dakota. To my surprise, these were somewhat larger. The smaller are convenient as they slide right in my back pocket (these kind of fit) and I keep them with me all day. These seem to be made with exceptional quality. The "bolt" that connects them is one with a notch that can be tightened should they ever loosen. Scissors is not a good word for these because they cut through 1/2 to 3/4 inch branches, small wire and have abundant uses. My favorite feature over pruners is these don't have the lock which, in my experience, will constantly close as one is using pruners. The handle is more for a man's hand or for me I will need to have a glove on. I need to have more time with them but in general feel they are a solid quality product. I liked my smaller pair so much at work that when I saw these I thought I'd get some for at home.
i was fearful that this pair of scissors would not be comfortable to use but, au contraire, they fit my hand very nicely and have cut everything i've needed them to cut so far at least.
I rate these as "ok" for garden work. The handles are indeed very large--too large for my (female) hands. However, I appreciate their size when wearing leather gloves. I find they cut woody stems more effectively than soft stems. Well made.
