Trail Blazer is a Canadian based manufacturer of hatchets, knives, saws, tree loppers & extension poles, which meet any challenge, from the needs of the outdoor enthusiast to odd jobs around the home & cottage. Trail Blazer is headquartered in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada and also warehoused in the United States.  We market our products in Canada, the United States and more than 30 other countries around the world. We have set many industry standards for quality and performance since beginning operations in 1987.

In 1987, Curtis Levangie developed the Take-Down Buck Saw, which was sold at local sporting goods shows and retailers.  Five years later, we were approached by the North American Hunting Club and challenged to have our Take-Down Buck Saw field-tested. Not only did the Take-Down Buck Saw meet the challenge, but it also received a 100% recommendation from the North American Hunting Club. The North American Hunting Club has also field-tested and recommended our Xtend-A-Saw (1995), Hunter’s Edge (1998) and Xtend-A-Pruner (2000).

Curtis Levangie’s son, Shawn, completed his Commerce degree in 1995, with Majors in Marketing at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada and joined Curtis at Trail Blazer to manage the marketing of Trail Blazer Products.

In 1990, Trail Blazer attended our first International Trade Show resulting in sales to the United States, Canada & Germany.

In 1995, our products became available in national outlets, such as Canadian Tire, who in the same year presented us with their Source Canada Vendor Award (recognizing excellence in Canadian Manufacturing). Trail Blazer soon became available in other National accounts, such as Mountain Equipment Co-op (1996), Home Hardware Stores (1997) and Lee Valley Tools (1999).

In 1996, Trail Blazer products became available in national outlets in the United States, such as Cabela's who produces more than 60 different catalogs per year that are shipped to all US States and 125 countries.  More than 100 million catalogues are mailed each year. They operate nine stores as big as 250,000 sq. ft., located mainly in the Midwest States.  We soon became available in other US accounts, such as L.L. Bean (1999), Campmor (2001), Garrett Wade Company (2001), Eastern Mountain Sports (2001), REI (2002), Galyan’s (2003) and Camping World.

In 1999, our Hunter’s Edge - knife/saw combo product was featured in Popular Mechanics which is a monthly, international magazine, published by the Hearst Corporation in New York, NY, USA who is the publisher of 19 other US titles that are distributed in more than 100 countries.

In 2000, our products became available through co-manufactures, such as Browning who have dealers located throughout North America and in 39 other countries. Trail Blazer gained popularity when Award Winning Journalist and former president of the Outdoor Writers of Canada, Bob Reguly, featured Trail Blazer on the front page of the business section in the March 1, 2000 issue of The Globe and Mail.  Mr. Reguly also featured our Take-Down Buck Saw in the may issue of Cottage Life, a Canadian Magazine that is published six times annually and distributed nationwide.

In 2001, Nour Trading House began distributing our line of extendable paint poles throughout Canada.  Our Sawvivor Saw received the CHS 2001 Best New Product Seasonal. The Nova Scotia Wildlife Federation presented Trail Blazer the Tobin Trophy “In recognition of [our] efforts to educate the public regarding wildlife & environmental issues.”  Also in 2001, Sentier Chasse-Pêche, a monthly hunting and fishing magazine in Central Canada with a reach of over 600, 000, chose our products to have their logo laser engraved for promotional purposes.

In 2004, we launched our new ergonomic hatchet at the Outdoor Retail Market trade show in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA.  We also released our new-patented jumbo ratchet lopper at the Home Hardware fall market in St. Jacobs, Ontario, Canada.
