I participated in Entrepreneurs’ Forum’s advisory session as a volunteer advisor. The entrepreneur … sorry confidentialEntrepreneurs’ Forum was developed in 1992 by business people & professionals in Nova Scotia to foster the growth and development of innovative and knowledge based companies. The original volunteer group realized that while technology problems might be challenging, the business problems involved in bringing innovative new companies to maturity were the most difficult. The Entrepreneurs’ Forum concept was developed around the principle that confidential advice from a group of people who have appropriate expertise or experience can be extremely valuable to new & growing companies.

I also participated in a family business panel during a half-day finance seminar hosted by The Canadian Association of Family Enterprise and The Dalhousie Centre for Family Business. The seminar had two panels of speakers - a financial panel of five advisers and a family panel of three business owners who put the “Fun back in Finance”.
The financial panel included Natasha Lymburner (EDC), Ed Handler (BDC), Noel Ryan (TD), Craig Maloney (WBLI), Ross Finlay (First Angel Network) & moderator David Reid (Cox & Palmer’s). The family panel included me (Shawn Levangie), Graham Young (Belmont Financial Group) & Scott Flemming (Ocean Contracting).
To top off the week, I enjoyed lunch at the Nova Scotia Yacht squadron as a guest of the Halifax Executives Association – leaders of industry-leading organizations that provide quality goods and services to customers and businesses in Halifax and beyond.
As president of CAFE NS, I had the opportunity to let them know, the Canadian Association of Family Enterprise is the best place for families in business to connect with peers to share experiences. (www.cafecanada.ca)
All the Best, Shawn Levangie
